Hebrews 12:11 says, "For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it."
Blessing and Correction is a song that is very dear to my heart. It is a song about God's Father heart. I have been experiencing this beautiful side of God in a new, deep way during this season of my life. A couple years ago, I would never have associated the word "correction" with God. I was experiencing him in the middle of the dark places in my heart. Like the prodigal son, I was experiencing the Lord come close to me when I thought I was too far gone. As my relationship with the Lord continued to develop, the things that used to sit well with me no longer did. My old life felt like clothes that no longer fit. I began to learn what a child of God is like- what she does, and what she does not do. How she speaks, and does not speak. How she thinks, and does not think. The gap between God's mercy and correction began to close because I started to see that they are one in the same. In His mercy, He corrects us; and in His correction, He is merciful. Oh what joy! This beautiful reality began to fill my heart like never before and a new level of intimacy with God has been found here.
If you have never known God as Father, if you have never experienced his kindness in correction, I pray that this song would speak to the depths of your soul. As you allow him to search you and as you grow in eagerness to expose the depths of your soul to him, I pray you would be open to his brave, honest truth and wisdom that is like a balm to weary souls.
"Come, let us return to the LORD. He has torn us to pieces; now he will heal us. He has wounded us; now he will bandage our wounds."
Hosea 6:1
